Since 2006

It began in Ayikudy, in 2006.

Ayikudy is a quiet town at the foot of the Western Ghats, near the temple town of Tenkasi. Many families here live on daily-wage work and beedi-rolling, where the need for education — let alone sport or the arts — is easily set aside.

In February 2006, Sri Subramanya Charitable Trust started here with a single aim: a positive impact on the lives of children from these heartlands. What began with support for 20 students has grown, quietly and steadily, into programmes spanning education, the arts, sport, women's livelihoods and care for elders.

Nearly two decades on, we remain what we always were — a conduit for the good intentions of our benefactors, working to better one village at a time.

“Sewa Parmo Dharma — service is the highest duty.”

Our vision

Our vision is to stimulate and manifest the essential goodness and divinity inherent in the children of our neighbourhood through the seamless blending of education, cultural training, sport and character-building. Besides children, the anchor to any society and its values are its women — we strive to impart employable skills that make them self-sustaining and contribute to the betterment of their families. It is our conviction that this brings material and spiritual prosperity for themselves, their families and the community at large.

Our mission

Our mission began with us acting as a medium to engage and impart academic support, fine-arts involvement and sports excellence to rural students from the poor, under-privileged and marginalised sections in and around Ayikudy (Kadayanallur Taluk, Tenkasi / Tirunelveli District, Tamil Nadu). We believe and aspire to see the pillars of our society — women and children — blossom as well-rounded individuals who will lead such initiatives for others in future, creating a ripple-effect of positive impact on the lives and livelihoods of the entire community.

The full breadth of our work

  • Educational support to needy children
  • Study of languages such as Tamil, Hindi and English
  • Sports infrastructure set-up & training for neighbourhood kids
  • Fine-arts & cultural training
  • Women's welfare & employability activities
  • Opportunities for physically-challenged persons
  • Facilities and daily care for old-age persons
  • Eco-friendly activities like tree-planting & water conservation
  • Final-rites performance for weaker sections in bereavement
  • Natural disaster assistance
  • Transit homes
Our guiding principles

What we hold ourselves to.

Under the universal mantra of “Sewa Parmo Dharma,” which will eventually lead us to a world where everyone finds what they seek — as the saying goes, “Sarve Jana Sukhino Bhavanthu” — we believe we have a duty and commitment to society.

“Let compassion be our passion, conscience our guide, consensus our aim, consistency our virtue, contentment our goal, empathy our watchword, humanity our action, and above all humility our signature.”

Our timeline

Nearly two decades, step by step.

  1. 2006
    The Trust is founded

SSCT is founded in February 2006 to provide guidance, teaching and financial support to needy children of Ayikudy in Tenkasi district. We start modestly, supporting 20 students.

  2. Early 2008

Operating 10 tuition centres for needy students across the neighbourhoods of Ayikudy village.

  3. 2008

Collaborating with other Trusts, using their nursery-school premises as tuition centres to expand our reach.

  4. 2011–2016

The number of girl students steadily rises — a heartening trend. Across these years we average around 300 students, with girls outnumbering boys in our after-school academic and fine-arts programmes.

  5. 2016

Our own centre — the V. Krishnaditya Sarma Learning Center — is built on land donated by a well-wisher in Melagramam, Ayikudy: 12 classrooms across 10,888 sq. ft., serving 300+ students.

  6. 2016–2018

Around 400 students avail our free tuition in 2016–17, and about 300 in 2017–18.

  7. 2020

We begin COVID-19 relief — nutritional lunch packets delivered to elderly destitutes in neighbouring villages, an effort that continues to this day.

  8. 2022 onwards

New programmes launch to support rural women and the elderly. After-school work is reorganised into three tracks: academic training, art / folk / culture, and physical improvement — with a multi-sport complex under construction.

  9. 2024

Opening of the multi-purpose shed within Sri Durga Vani Sports Academy, our sports complex for children.

Our inspirations

Voices that guide our work.

We draw strength from teachers, saints and leaders across traditions — inclusive by conviction.

“Do not look at anybody in terms of friend or foe, brother or cousin; do not fritter away your mental energies in thoughts of friendship or enmity. Seeking the Self everywhere, be amiable and equal-minded towards all, treating all alike.”
Shri Adi Sankarar
“Everything is perfect in God's creation. Ignorance and suffering exist only in the minds of people.”
Shri Ramana Maharishi
“Talk to yourself at least once a day — otherwise you may miss a meeting with an excellent person in the world.”
